Retrieval and transfer become separate projects
A freeze-all cycle means embryos are created and suitable embryos are frozen rather than transferred fresh in that treatment cycle. For a traveler, it is important to understand that “IVF trip” may therefore describe only the retrieval half of the process.
Ask for a written timeline showing retrieval, laboratory development, freezing, any testing, the earliest realistic FET window and how long each Medellín visit is likely to be.
Ask whether freeze-all is planned or contingency
Some patients know before stimulation that a frozen transfer is intended. Others may start expecting a fresh transfer and switch based on response, OHSS risk, endometrial factors, PGT plans or another medical reason.
Your quote should handle both situations. Ask what additional cost is created if a planned fresh transfer becomes freeze-all.
Evidence does not support treating freeze-all as a universal upgrade
HFEA’s evidence review says clinicians do not have enough confidence to conclude that routine elective freeze-all increases the chance of a baby for everyone, though it may be appropriate for specific clinical reasons and can reduce OHSS risk.
That makes “why for me?” the right question. The answer should connect the plan to your actual medical circumstances.
The second trip is part of the budget today
If you live abroad, a future FET means another flight, accommodation and time away from work in addition to clinical fees. Even if you are not ready to schedule that trip, put it in the decision model now.
Otherwise the retrieval price can look artificially cheap compared with a package that includes later transfer services.
