Donor egg treatment adds a second care pathway

A donor-egg cycle is not simply ordinary IVF with a different egg source. The clinic must have processes for donor recruitment or sourcing, screening, consent, matching and coordination before the recipient treatment plan is even considered.

A useful quote separates donor-program costs from recipient treatment and embryology.

Ask what kind of donor arrangement the price assumes

Clarify whether the proposal uses fresh donor eggs, previously frozen donor eggs, a shared cohort, an exclusive cohort or another structure. The number of eggs available, whether a minimum is promised, and what happens if eggs do not survive or fertilize are program-specific questions.

Do not compare two donor programs by headline price without understanding what biological material and guarantees, if any, each price actually covers.

Screening and matching deserve written answers

Ask what medical, infectious-disease, genetic and psychosocial screening the clinic performs under its applicable standards. Ask what non-identifying donor information is available to recipients and what records will be retained for the future.

Donor identity and information-access rules vary significantly by jurisdiction. Get the Colombian clinic’s actual policy rather than importing assumptions from U.S. or European systems.

Travel usually centers on the recipient cycle, but timing can still move

Recipient preparation and embryo-transfer timing depend on the treatment plan. Ask what can be monitored at home, when the recipient must be in Medellín and what happens if donor or laboratory timing shifts.

If embryos will be frozen before transfer, price storage and FET separately even if the first quote is sold as a complete donor-egg package.

Questions worth sending the clinic

  1. What donor-egg arrangement does this price assume?
  2. How many eggs are expected or guaranteed, if any?
  3. What donor screening is performed and what information can recipients receive?
  4. What happens financially if eggs do not survive, fertilize or create transferable embryos?
  5. Are freezing, storage and FET included?
