One invoice is not one complete fertility strategy

A single ovarian stimulation and retrieval can create zero, one or several embryos suitable for transfer. One retrieval can therefore lead to no transfer, one transfer or multiple later frozen transfers.

CDC uses cumulative ART measures precisely because later transfers from one retrieval can matter when evaluating outcomes. A personal budget should also distinguish retrievals from transfers.

Build three budget layers

Layer one is the retrieval episode: consultations, testing, stimulation medication, monitoring, retrieval, fertilization and embryo culture. Layer two is embryo management: testing if used, freezing and storage. Layer three is transfer: fresh or frozen transfer preparation and the transfer itself.

Once those are separate, you can model what happens if the first transfer does not result in a live birth without pretending you necessarily need another full retrieval immediately.

Travel repeats differently depending on the layer

Another FET may involve a shorter Medellín trip than another retrieval cycle. Another retrieval may require monitoring coordination and more time away. Donor treatment can have a different travel structure again.

Compare destinations using the likely sequence, not only the advertised first-cycle package.

Preserve emotional and financial flexibility

No budget model can predict how many attempts you will choose or need. The point is to know where the next dollar would go if treatment does not end after the first invoice.

A clinic that gives transparent second-cycle and FET pricing may be easier to plan around than one that only advertises the entry package.
