Egg freezing in Medellín: cost, timeline and what to ask
Elective egg freezing in Medellín — 2026 cost versus the US, the ten-to-twelve-day timeline, storage fees, and what to ask a clinic about vitrification and transport.

Egg freezing is the single trip in fertility medicine that fits a holiday. One cycle, ten to twelve days in Medellín, no partner needed, no transfer to schedule. That's why it's the second-most-searched fertility treatment for the city after IVF.
Elective egg freezing, one cycle, 2026
USD, excluding medications and annual storage.
Add medications (see the medications guide) and storage: roughly $500–$1,000/yr in the US, $200–$500/yr in Colombia.
The timeline
- Before you fly: AMH and antral follicle count, an infectious disease panel, a virtual consult to set the protocol.
- Day 1–2: arrive, baseline scan and bloods, start stimulation injections.
- Day 3–10: scans every two or three days, dose adjustments.
- Day 10–12: trigger injection, retrieval thirty-six hours later under sedation.
- Day 12–13: rest. The lab tells you how many mature eggs were vitrified.
- Day 13–14: fly home.
Some people do it in the single stay above; others, especially those with a monitoring clinic at home, fly in for just the last week.
How many eggs, how many cycles
This is a conversation for your consult, not a website, because it depends on your age and ovarian reserve. The general shape: younger patients usually bank a useful number in one cycle; over 35, two cycles are commonly discussed. Ask the clinic what number they'd consider a reasonable target for your age and AMH, and how they'd decide whether to recommend a second cycle.
What to ask about the lab
- Do they use vitrification (rapid freezing)? Every serious lab does now; confirm anyway.
- What is their survival rate on thaw, from their own data?
- Where are the eggs stored, who monitors the tanks, and what's the storage contract?
- Can the eggs be shipped internationally later if you want to use them elsewhere, what does that cost, and have they done it?
Using them later
If you eventually do IVF with the frozen eggs, you can come back to Medellín — usually the simplest option, since the lab that froze them thaws them — or arrange transport to a clinic at home. International transport of frozen material is routine but paperwork-heavy; ask before you freeze, not after.
