Important: This guide helps organize questions, quotes and travel. A fertility specialist who knows your history must make treatment, medication and travel-clearance decisions.

The consultation should change the itinerary, not merely approve it

The point of a pre-travel fertility consultation is to determine what treatment is actually being considered and what information is still missing. If the appointment ends with only a package price and suggested hotel dates, you have not finished the medical planning.

Ask the physician to explain the diagnosis or working problem, the proposed treatment path and the uncertainties that remain.

Clarify what can be completed at home

Testing, record review and some cycle monitoring may be possible before arrival depending on the clinic and case. Knowing that early can reduce unnecessary days in Medellín.

Ask exactly which test results the clinic accepts from outside providers and which it requires to repeat itself.

Map the decision points

A useful plan identifies where things can change: medication response, retrieval timing, fertilization method, fresh versus frozen transfer, embryo testing and whether another cycle may be needed.

Travel is easier when you know which dates are approximate rather than pretending the whole month is fixed.

Finish with a written plan and written cost assumptions

After the consultation, request a written summary or treatment plan and an itemized estimate based on the information currently available. Mark conditional items clearly.

That becomes the document you can compare with another clinic if you want a second opinion.

Questions worth sending the clinic

  1. What treatment path are you recommending today, and what remains uncertain?
  2. Which records/tests can I complete at home?
  3. Which dates are fixed versus estimated?
  4. What findings could change fresh transfer to freeze-all?
  5. Can I have the current plan and cost assumptions in writing?
