How to Verify a Fertility Doctor and Clinic in Medellín
Use Colombia's ReTHUS and REPS systems as a starting point before relying on clinic biographies or international-patient marketing.
Verify the professional and the facility separately
A fertility website can feature a respected doctor while treatment, laboratory work or procedures occur through a larger institution. Treat the clinician and the healthcare provider as two separate verification tasks.
Ask for the physician’s full legal name and the exact clinic or IPS name where the relevant services are provided.
Use ReTHUS for health-professional registration
ReTHUS is Colombia’s national health-talent registry. SISPRO explains that citizens can use it to verify whether health personnel have met requirements to practice and to view certain reported disciplinary information.
Matching a name in ReTHUS does not tell you whether the doctor is the right fertility specialist for your case. It answers the narrower question of professional authorization.
Use REPS for the healthcare provider
REPS is Colombia’s special registry of health-service providers and includes information about providers, locations and enabled services. The public consultation can be used to verify that the institution you were given corresponds to a registered provider.
Again, registration is not a quality ranking. It is a basic verification step.
Then ask fertility-specific operational questions
Who is your treating physician? Who directs or oversees the embryology laboratory? Where does retrieval occur? Where are embryos stored? Which outside laboratories are used for genetic testing? Who covers urgent questions after hours?
Those answers tell you how the care system actually works beyond the sales conversation.
